We're on another mission again but now the aim is to focus more energy into a larger project. This will take all of our skill to bend our will in a single direction for an extended period of time! Thus we begin our intended path as collaborating artists, Riaan and Karma! (drumroll)
We're starting off by painting birds. Guache will be our medium; only to start with. We have worked with guache before and it is an old love of both of ours. The weekend already proved to be full of distractions of the usual plight. But in the end Riaan persevered and produced this lovely little character, the African Stonechat! Karma is yet to complete her woodpecker, finding it thus far difficult to deviate from human portraiture; animals are more Riaan's forte.
We photographed this one at Rietvlei's nature reserve.
With this project we seek to cast away the distractions of digital monkeys and all of our cultures propagated, insatiable nonsense. To come to terms with our binding nature, our connection with nature. We begin a slow trial of studying the small innocence and loveliness of bird species. Beyond our daily toil and set paths of capitalist endeavours, we wind away from the beaten paths between work, home and social sites, paths concentrating mindless consumption, to find a stillness and become mindful once more in the chaos of nature, the natural order.
Through personal practice we seek to establish good intentions in our friendship, and to grow together as artists, in perspective and skill. (battle horns) To victory!
