Next weekend we are planning to paint our paintings with the pigment that we've collected from the Cape. These paintings are going to be executed as technically perfect as possible. We've decided to paint on board. The reason for using board is that it is known to be very permanent, also we don't know the flexibility of our new pigments.
We've sized the boards several times with some rabbit skin glue as well as a thorough layer on the back of each board. We've now applied our first layer of an egg emulsion primer. The primer consists out of an titanium white oxide, a whole egg, linseed oil (cold pressed, refined and sun thickened), some water and the rabbit skin sizing.

The proportions of water, egg and oil. |
The egg, oil and water is mixed together. The titanium powder is now mixed into a thick paste with this mixture. The consistency of the paste is then made a lot more runny using the rabbit skin sizing. This is then painted onto the already sized board.

The first coat of primer is now painted onto our sized boards. |
We are planing to add about three coats of primer onto the board. Once the first layer is dry I will sand it very lightly and apply the next layer.
