What I've been up to - Ceramic "Piggy bank"
Last week ended on a really good note. It was the PPC Imaginarium awards ceremony. Me and Bronwyn Furno walked away with a runner-up awards for our Klondyke Lamp. Our lamp also featured on the House&Leisure as the "Item Of The Day". You can read the full article here: http://www.houseandleisure.co.za/the-klondyke-lamp/ . Karma entered the fine art category and walked away with a third place for that category!
The last few days I have been working on a clay "piggy bank" concept. It is still in its maquette (scale model) phase. A piggy bank is the ideal way to test out the clay hollowing and re-attaching process. Before firing a clay sculpture the sculpture have to be hollow to prevent the clay from cracking or bursting. The ideal thickness for the clay is no more than 13mm. The sculpture should also have a hole that allows the heat (and airflow) of the firing process to enter the inside of the sculpture, in this case it would be the coin hole as well as the hole for the plug at the bottom.
