The Great Collaboration Part III

In this post we have started making the body or our creature. Newspaper was used for a rough shape of what the creature should look like. Our body is inspired by the shape of a fish.

Newspaper was used to add volume to the body.

We started sculpting around the newspaper with ordinary pottery clay. We didn't worry too much about cracks as we were going to make the silicon cast immediately over the soft clay. Because of the cold winter weather the silicon never dried properly so we had to remove the silicon rework the clay body and adjust the new silicon with a little bit extra catalyst. This worked great, the only other problem was that we ran out of silicon.

In the end the mold turned out good, it was slightly thin but a good Plaster of Paris shell held the shape of the mold perfectly.
